We're going to construct the frame backdrop out of PVC most likely. The columns will be made out of plywood, but we are thinking of making them a little thinner and less "heavy" looking.
Here's what I've purchased so far to re-create the look on a budget:
- Silk leis from Save-On-Crafts: I purchased 48 leis, we need 2.5 strung together to make 20 garlands 6.5 feet long.
- Beaded rope from Cristalier: To keep this in a reasonable budget, I couldn't swing the $6 per yard price tag of the chandelier crystals and opted for the beaded rope at a budget-friendly $3.95 per yard. I ordered 24 yards. The strands will hang at varying lengths of 6 ft, 5 ft, 4 ft and 3 ft.
- Large drop crystals from Cristalier: I ordered 20 of these large American cut crystals to hang at the end of each beaded rope.
I have yards of white, silky, crinkly fabric in the attic that I got for free years ago, which will cap off the sides and cover the center pole. Since we're still undecided on the columns, and therefore the vases/orchids, I'm holding off on purchasing those for right now. When the decision is made, I'm sure I can find some large glass vases at Christmas Tree Shop, and Ikea has nice latex orchids for $5 a piece. I'm confident that we can completely re-create this look on a budget! Check back in a few weeks as we attempt to set this up in a trial-run in our backyard to work out any technical issues!
